Welcome to our hidden gem in the Japanese Alps!

When we entered the lodge in June 2019, we quickly realized there was some work to do. Our first project was getting the communal area up to date. This area has now set the tone for the rest of the lodge. Our European roots are reflected in the interior. You can enjoy your privacy in our comfortable rooms or socialize in the communal areas, where the wood fire keeps you nice and warm.

You can sign up for occasional dinners for an additional charge. If you like to book lessons/guiding during your stay with us we will give you a nice package deal. Airport shuttles and shuttles from Iiyama Station can be organized. Ask us for availability and prices or have a look at our Packages page.

This room is perfect for families, groups of friends or couples who just want to have that extra bit more space. You will have two rooms and a bathroom for yourself. One room will have a double (or twin) bed. The other room is a bigger room that can be used as living room during the day and contains a comfi sofabed that can be converted into a double bed during the night.
3-ROOM LOFT

Our 3-room loft with mountain view contains 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a big living area. The living area includes a desk and a comfy seating area. The seating area can be transformed into another double bed bringing this loft up to a max capacity of 6 guests. Enjoy the views on Mount Madarao when getting up in the morning or while the sun sets down after a great day on the slopes.

A great option if you’re with a couple, two friends or by yourself and want to have the extra privacy of having your private bathroom. Go and hang out in the common area where the wood fire and some local drinks will ensure you a good apres-ski feel.

Are you with a large group and prefer more privacy? Do you have something to celebrate? Our lodge is for rent for private groups! Include a 6-course dinner in your package or other activities depending on the season. Prices are for a maximum capacity of 20 guests. Contact us for availability and prices for lower numbers. FAQ

How far is your lodge from the ski resort?

From our lodge it is just under a 10 minute walk to the slopes of Madarao. Alternatively, we offer free shuttles in the morning and afternoon, to the closest lift access from Madarao Mountain Resort (drop off point Madarao Kogen Hotel). During every time slot there are 4 set shuttle times where you can sign up for with a maximum of 7 people per time slot. There will be a sign-up sheet in the lodge where you can sign up for your daily shuttles. The shuttle times are:
Morning drop off: 8:00, 8:15, 8:30, 8:45.
Afternoon pick up: 15:45, 16:00, 16:15: 16:30.

How to get to JPS lodge by public transport from the airport?

From both Haneda and Narita airport you have to take one train into Tokyo. From either Tokyo station or Ueno staion you can take a direct shinkansen connection to Iiyama station that takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. From Iiyama station you can either take a local bus or we can pick you up by car. Ask us for help or plan your trip here: https://japantravel.navitime.com/en/

Can you recommend a car rental service?

For car rentals, we can recommend MJ Car Rental Services. They are reliable and their cars are well equiped for winter conditions. If you decide to rent elsewhere and you are up here during the winter season, renting a car with 4WD and snow tyres is required.

Do we have to buy lift tickets in advance?

We can provide discounted tickets in the lodge for Madarao and Tangram upon arrival.

Do you rent ski/snowboard gear?

We have a small rental fleet of Jones powder boards and Faction touring ski’s. If you are interested let us know your size and we can see if we have the right fit for you! We don’t have regular rental gear ourselves, but we can organize rental gear in advance with our rental partner in Madarao. You can find more info and a booking reservation form here. Payment will have to be fulfilled at their shop.

Do you sell drinks in the lodge?

We have a self service bar area with a wide range of local and international wines, sakes, spirits, and soft drinks, including coffee, tea and hot chocolate and some snacks. Our staff is more than happy to assist you with our recommendations.

If you prefer to bring your own drinks you can do so for an additional corkage fee of ¥1,000 per person per day or ¥1,500 per bottle (0.75L). Please note that while attending the 6-course dinners, we don’t allow you to consume your own drinks.

What is the cancellation policy for accommodation?

Free cancellation is possible more than 120 days before arrival. Cancellations between 120 and 60 days before arrival will incur a charge of 60% of the total booking cost. No refund is possible for cancellations made less than 60 days before arrival.

Do you provide airport shuttles?

We don’t offer airport shuttles but Nagano Snow Shuttles provides shuttles from both airports to Madaarao Kogen Hotel. From the hotel we can pick you up free of charge.

I would like to send my bags to the lodge while I do some sight seeing in Tokyo. Is this possible?

No matter if you are coming down from Hokkaido or if you will spend a few nights in Tokyo before heading up here, we highly recommend sending over heavy (ski) bags to our lodge with the courier service Kuroneko (black cat) from the airport or any other location in Japan. They are very affordable and reliable and you won’t be carrying your heavy bags through Tokyo. If you do so, please use the following details:

We don’t offer senior lift tickets, but our discounts exceed the resort’s senior rates. Pro tip: Purchase consecutive days for additional savings.

Do you have a kitchen we can use?

In the lodge we have a guest fridge, microwave and toaster available for communal use. During winter season our commercial kitchen will mostly be used for prepping or serving dinner. On the night that the kitchen is available you are more than welcome to use our kitchen. Just let us know beforehand!

Do you cater for a gluten free diet?

We can cater to all dietary requirements in the lodge with our breakfasts as well as our dinners. We serve homemade gluten free sourdough bread and breakfast mix in the morning and serve different types of plant based milk. If you are gluten free, it’s is good to know that we can cater to a gluten free diet, however our kitchen is not a gluten free facility.
