Our Story

Though we are both Dutch, in fact, we first met almost a decade ago instructing in Canada! We have since pursued our passion for travelling, snow and instructing at the world’s finest ski destinations Canada, New Zealand, and of course Japan. Always upon our return to Amsterdam and resuming our ‘non-winter careers’, Annie in e-learning and Dutchie as a chef & baker, it wouldn’t take long before we dreamed of our next trip. Which as it has for many –posed the question, what and where do we really want to be in life?

What do we want to do and why?

The answer was relatively simple – to be together in a place with amazing winters and amazing culture – JAPAN! To build our work around our passion for skiing, snowboarding food and hospitality. In 2018 we launched our snowsports school ‘Japan Snowsports’. At first, solely to offer lessons and guiding across Japan, but with immediate success and falling in love with our life here, we discovered a beautiful little lodge in nearby Madarao – with a central location to Nagano and Niigata’s best ski resorts, it’s quiet mountain town nature – and some of the best powder riding and tree runs in Japan. It was irresistible!

Our longer-term vision & goal then took shape almost immediately. Providing a complete quality snow experience to our guests with :

  • LEARN with us: private lessons and guiding from experienced instructors
  • PLAY with us: guiding you to the best spots for that day and your ability

We are a down to earth, easy going and approachable business, on the mountain and at home. Working in an honest, transparent and professional manner, we thrive to be enthusiastic and helpful to everyone we interact with.

  • Education: we thrive to teach & see others learn, from snowsports to cooking and adopting a sustainable lifestyle.
  • Personal approach: sharing ‘Our Japan’ that we have come to love and accommodating guests needs with our local knowledge.
  • Sustainability: although we are a small player we do our best to be as sustainable as we can in all our services.
